County Teams Hope to Sow Seeds Into Titles
If the seedings announced Tuesday by the Southern Section hold up, this could be a banner year for Orange County boys’ tennis teams. In four of the five divisions, a county team was seeded first. In divisions I and II, county teams accounted for seven of the top eight seedings.
Los Alamitos (15-2), which has never reached a section boys’ tennis final, is seeded first in Division I, based on its earlier victory over second-seeded Palos Verdes Peninsula. South Coast League champion Capistrano Valley (15-0) is third and South Coast runner-up Dana Hills (12-5) is fourth.
In Division II, defending champion University (13-7), Woodbridge (14-5), Troy (20-3) and Irvine (13-4) are the top four seeded teams. The only division where a county team is not top-seeded is Division III, where Canyon (17-3) and Sunny Hills (13-5) are third and fourth. Beverly Hills is No. 1 and Westlake Village Westlake is No. 2.
Servite (19-0), ranked third in the county, is top-seeded in Division IV, Goleta Dos Pueblos is No. 2. Corona del Mar (18-0), the county’s top-ranked team, is top-seeded in Division V and Los Angeles Brentwood is second.
First-round matches begin Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. There is no wild-card round.
