Weekend Wildfire 35% Contained
For a few anxious moments, a weekend wildfire burned within several hundred yards of a recreational vehicle park near this Sierra town of 17,000, and 25 Lassen Community Hospital patients were evacuated because of heavy smoke.
But by midday Tuesday, firefighters had turned the flames enough that the patients were allowed to return.
With the fire about 35% contained, it has blackened 4,100 acres and forced the evacuation of 140 people.
The blaze was sparked Sunday by a man shooting targets in the woods, officials said.
