Placentia’s Hand Takes Claremont Tennis Title

Top-seeded Christian Hand of Placentia defeated No. 2-seeded Seth Lewkow of Culver City, 6-3, 7-6 (1), to win the boys’ 18 division championship of the third Ramada Inn Claremont junior tennis tournament Monday in Claremont.
Second-seeded Jeannine Liang of Rancho Palos Verdes upset top-seeded Jessica Nesamony of Redlands, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, for the girls’ 18 title.
Southern California boys’ 16 sectional champion Jack Li of Irvine defeated No. 3-seeded Cale Planck of Palm Desert, 5-7, 6-1, 6-0. Jennifer Dao of Claremont beat Austin Hansen of Santa Monica, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, in the girls’ 16 final.
Steve Johnson Jr. of Orange won, 6-1, 6-1, over Jonathon Calienes of Chino in the boys’ 14 final, and top-seeded Cosmina Ciobanu of Brea was beaten, 6-4, 6-3, by No. 2-seeded Danon Beatty of Bakersfield.
