Tuzkov Leads Romp for West Torrance, 41-6

Senior running back Eugene Tuzkov rushed for 214 yards in 10 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead West Torrance to a 41-6 victory over visiting South Torrance in a nonleague game Saturday.

Tuzkov scored on a 68-yard run on the game’s first offensive play, a 67-yard run on the first play of West Torrance’s next series and a three-yard run that gave the Warriors (1-1) a 21-0 first quarter lead. He added a 29-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to make it 38-0.

Chauncey Washington of South Torrance (1-1), who gained 306 yards in last week’s opener against Beverly Hills, was limited to 24 yards in 11 carries.

Laguna Hills 10, Mission Viejo Trabuco Hills 7--Andrew Larson kicked a 30-yard field goal with 18 seconds left to give the Hawks (2-0) the victory at Trabuco Hills.

Linebacker Patrick Rochon intercepted a pass and returned it 35 yards to the Mustang 28-yard line to help set up the field goal.

On the ensuing short kickoff, Laguna Hills recovered the ball, but Hawk Christian Merritt sustained a neck injury during the play.

The game was called with 15 seconds to play. Merritt, who eventually moved his arms and legs, was taken to a nearby hospital for further tests.

Westminster 22, Costa Mesa 16--Fidel Gonzalez completed 12 of 20 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns, including fourth-quarter scoring plays of 82 yards to Akilah Lacey and 68 yards to John Le that stretched the lead to 22-8.

Both teams are 1-1.

Garden Grove 35, Sonora 31--Ruben Hernandez had two touchdown receptions, including an 80-yarder, and also rushed for a touchdown for the Argonauts (2-0).

Jeff Patton threw three touchdown passes, two to David Mayfield, and kicked a 40-yard field goal for Sonora (1-1).
