Dave Anderson ran seven yards for a touchdown, caught a 39-yard scoring pass and returned a punt 85 yards for his third touchdown to help Thousand Oaks High upset No. 19 Westlake, 21-14, Thursday night in the teams’ Marmonte League football opener.
Thousand Oaks had not scored against Westlake (3-2 overall) since the 1998 season, and had lost consecutive games by the score of 49-0. But the Lancers (2-2) gained confidence after putting together a 99-yard, 15-play scoring drive in the second quarter to tie the score, 7-7.
Anderson, a senior receiver, broke a 14-14 tie with his dramatic punt return early in the fourth quarter. Anderson caught six passes for 79 yards. Quarterback Ben Olson completed 14 of 23 passes for 151 yards.
