Riise Helps Carolina Move Into First Place

Hege Riise scored on a rebound of her own shot in the 88th minute to give the Carolina Courage a 2-1 victory over the San Jose CyberRays in front of 6,211 Thursday and sole possession of first place in the Women’s United Soccer Assn.
Birgit Prinz’s seventh goal gave Carolina (9-2-3) a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute. She was assisted by Danielle Fotopolous, giving each a point in eight consecutive games.
San Jose (5-5-3) answered in the 48th minute when Tisha Venturini-Hoch scored on a header for her third goal.
