Oxnard Man Accused of Choking Woman

An Oxnard man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of choking his girlfriend and breaking into a Ventura motel room to attack her, Ventura police said.

William Jackson, 28, and his girlfriend were driving on Main Street and arguing shortly before 1 a.m. when the woman jumped from the car and fled to a room at the Loop Motor Lodge in the 3100 block of East Main Street, according to police.

People in the room tried to hide the woman but told police Jackson forced open the door and began choking her. Witnesses said Jackson then dragged the woman to the car and drove away, police said.

A short time later other witnesses heard Jackson and the woman arguing in the car on Loma Vista Road, authorities said. Police arrived and arrested Jackson, who remains in custody in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $210,000 bail. He is accused of kidnapping, burglary, spousal battery and vandalism. The woman, whose name was not released by police, suffered minor injuries, police said.
