Chamique Holdsclaw was on crutches in the Washington Mystics’ locker room.

Over on the Portland Fire’s side, Jackie Stiles, placed on injured reserve before the game, was hobbling around in a walking cast; and DeMya Walker was with a dentist.

Holdsclaw, the WNBA’s leading scorer and rebounder, suffered a high ankle sprain when her leg was pinned under Walker while the two battled under the basket during the first half of the Fire’s 72-66 victory before 6,761 fans Friday at Portland, Ore.

“It looks like it’s not too serious,” Mystic Coach Marianne Stanley said of Holdsclaw’s injury. “Right now I really don’t know what the status is, so we’ll probably have it re-X-rayed.”

Stiles, last season’s WNBA rookie of the year, faces possible season-ending surgery because of bursitis in her right heel. Walker left the game with a minute remaining when her face collided with the knee of Washington’s Murriel Page.

Portland improved to 6-8. Washington is 10-4.
