San Pedro, Carson Vie for Softball Title

San Pedro and Carson, which finished first and second in the Marine League, will meet today at 4:15 p.m. at UCLA for the third consecutive year to determine the City Section softball champion.

Top-seeded San Pedro is 25-2, and is led by sophomore Ashley Esparza, who is 20-2 with a 0.17 earned-run average and a .420 batting average with 22 runs batted in. Second-seeded Carson is 24-5 and playing in its fourth consecutive title game, but looking for its first victory. Sophomore Danira Iolano (14-3, 1.00 ERA) emerged at midseason as Carson’s top pitcher.
