Party Eyes Weiss as Candidate in D.A. Race
From Times Staff Reports
The leadership of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party plans to ask City Councilman Jack Weiss to consider running against Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley next year.
Weiss, a former federal prosecutor who has made public safety a centerpiece of his work on the council, said Friday it was “too early to make any statements about decisions I might or might not make in the future.”
In addition, Tom Higgins, a veteran deputy district attorney, has filed papers to explore running in the 2004 election.
