There will be no repeat, or four-peat, for Rodrigo Grilli.

The No. 3-seeded UCLA senior dominated the Ojai tournament the last three years while winning two community-college division singles titles for College of the Desert and capturing the Pacific 10 Conference title in 2002, but he lost a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 quarterfinal Friday to Washington sophomore Alex Vlaski.

Grilli had defeated Vlaski to win last year’s championship.

The loss was the first but not the last of the day for Grilli, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He and teammate Marcin Matkowski were beaten, 8-5, by Arizona State’s Ryan McBride and Pim Van Mele, in the first round of doubles play.

The noise coming from Court No. 4 at Thacher School wasn’t only Los Alamitos High senior Kevin McQuaid letting out his frustration through loud, exasperated conversations with himself.

It also was Woodland Hills El Camino Real senior Bruce Aiken upsetting the No. 4-seeded player in the CIF Interscholastic division, 6-4, 6-3, in the round of 16 Friday morning.

Aiken, a senior, recorded the first major upset in junior competition, and was one of several players who contributed to the City Section’s strongest tournament showing in recent years.

Aiken lost, 6-3, 6-1, to Corona del Mar’s Garrett Snyder in the quarterfinals later in the day.

The unseeded Snyder’s victory over Aiken moved him into today’s semifinals against top-seeded Jeffrey Das.

Snyder rallied from a 4-1 first-set deficit to defeat Anaheim Servite’s Jonathan Sanchez, 6-4, 6-1, in his first match of the day.

Das advanced with a 6-4, 6-0 quarterfinal victory over Brentwood senior Eric McKean.

Third-seeded Kaes Van’t Hof of Santa Ana Mater Dei defeated Matthew Ozurovich of Santa Margarita, 7-6 (4), 6-1, to advance to the other semifinal.
