All Tomorrow’s Parties: new dates

Third time’s the charm?

The 2003 edition of the All Tomorrow’s Parties pop music festival has been rescheduled a second time and scaled back from three days to two. The event is now slated for Nov. 8 and 9 in Long Beach.

Originally slated for June 20 to 22 with performances in L.A. at the Palace, Palladium and Fonda theaters, the event, curated by “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening, will now be spread over two stages, one at the Queen Mary, the other at nearby Marina Park.

The date was bumped again after organizers had rescheduled it because of slow ticket sales for Sept. 26-28, which coincides with Rosh Hashanah.

The lineup will still include a reunion of Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band (minus Beefheart, a.k.a. Don Van Vliet) and Mission to Burma, while Patti Smith, Yo La Tengo and Le Tigre have dropped out because of scheduling conflicts for the new dates. Several other acts that have been added to the bill, including Cat Power, Spoon, Built to Spill and Modest Mouse, according to the All Tomorrow’s Parties web site. Tickets go on sale today.
