Rancho Cucamonga is the only unbeaten and untied team left in the Top 10 as Alta Loma defeated previously unbeaten Pomona Garey, 2-0, last Tuesday. Long Beach Millikan suffered a shootout loss to Santa Ana Saddleback in the championship game of the Millikan tournament but was credited with a tie because the defeat came in a shootout in tournament play. Santa Ana Saddleback appeared poised to move up in the rankings after its victory over Millikan, but the Roadrunners lost to Huntington Beach Ocean View, 2-1, in a Golden West League game Friday. Irvine Woodbridge lost for the first time as well that day, falling to Villa Park, 3-1, in a semifinal of the Brea Olinda tournament.

Two teams with 9-0 records bookend this week’s rankings. Huntington Beach Edison retains the top spot after a come-from-behind, 3-2 victory over Dana Point Dana Hills. Walnut is the only newcomer to the rankings, following up last season’s Division III co-championship with an undefeated record this season. San Clemente won the Mater Dei tournament, beating Aliso Niguel, 2-0, in the championship game. Santa Margarita continues its roll with a victory over last season’s Division I co-champion Mission Viejo, dropping the Diablos from the rankings. After a relatively light week, a majority of the top teams will compete in the Excalibur tournament, Dec. 29-31, at Santa Ana Foothill High.

Santa Ana Foothill remains atop the rankings after handling Santa Margarita, which fell to the Knights in each of the last three Southern Section Division I championship matches, and Montebello. Corona del Mar, which has one of the toughest schedules in the Southland, was hit hard by flu and suffered short-handed losses to Santa Barbara and Long Beach Wilson, though everyone played in an 8-7 loss to intra-city rival Newport Harbor. No. 9 Los Alamitos faces Foothill today. Pico Rivera El Rancho posted victories over Alhambra Keppel and Crescenta Valley, the No. 8 team in Division III.
