*--* Brandon Bethke El Toro Junior The Orange County champion won the Southern Section Division I title, placed third in the state championships and finished 18th in the West Region championships. Mark Matusak Loyola Junior Won Division II titles in the Southern Section and state championships before finishing sixth in the West Region and 22nd in the nationals. He beat Mohamed Trafeh while setting a junior course record of 14 minutes 33 seconds in winning the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational sweepstakes race. Luis Medina Arroyo Junior Gave Matusak a scare at the end of the Southern Section Division II final before finishing fourth in the state championships. Jose Melena Antelope Valley Junior Peaked perfectly at the end of the season, finishing fourth in the Southern Section Division II final, second in the state meet and 11th in the West Regional. Daniel Nunn San Luis Obispo Senior Won Division III titles in the Southern Section and state championships before finishing 23rd in the West Regional. Mohamed Trafeh Duarte Senior The Times’ runner of the year placed 11th in the national championships and second in the West Region after winning his second consecutive Division IV titles in the Southern Section and state finals. He tied the course record of 14:28 at Mt. SAC in winning the section title. Andrew Trinidad Rancho Cucamonga Senior One-half of the best 1-2 punch in the Southland. He placed second in the Inland Empire Challenge, fourth in the state Division I final and fifth in the Southern Section championships. Tim McIntosh St. John Bosco Coach (Assistants: Mark Casas, Brian Robles.) The Braves won Division II titles in the Southern Section and state championships, despite the fact that injuries prevented two of the Braves’ top five returning runners from performing at a high level this season.
