Wacky Patty Might Stretch It Into a Double

Share

The last time a 2-year-old filly won both the Nursery and Cinderella Stakes at Hollywood Park was 2000. Golden Ballet easily won both races -- the Nursery for co-owner and trainer Jerry Dutton and the Cinderella for owners Bill Heiligbrodt and Team Valor and trainer Jenine Sahadi after being purchased privately.

Owned and trained by Jim Chapman, Wacky Patty will try to complete the same parlay and remain unbeaten in the $75,000-added Cinderella at five furlongs. The race is part of a pick six with a carry-over of $168,529.

A daughter of Formal Dinner out of the Fly So Free mare As a Day in June, Wacky Patty won her debut by 2 1/2 lengths April 30, then returned less than two weeks later to win the Nursery by two lengths as the 11-10 favorite.

If she is to remain perfect, Wacky Patty will have to beat the filly who was closest to her in the Nursery, Yogi’s Polar Bear, and seven others fresh off victories.

Four of those winners were successful at first asking. Dirty Diana beat Cal-breds by seven lengths in her debut April 24 and was subsequently purchased by trainer Bob Baffert for a partnership; Smoke Break beat maidens in her initial outing at Bay Meadows on May 1; Outrageous Oysters defeated state-breds locally and Hot Weekend was impressive in a win May 15.

Race of the day: Fog City Willy, who has won four in a row and six of his last seven, returns to Southern California in search of his 16th win in today’s second at Hollywood Park. The 7-year-old Present Value gelding was claimed out of his last win at Bay Meadows by trainer Ted H. West for owner Jeffrey Sengara.

One for the road: No Peso No Dance has won five in a row and now steps up to meet tougher opposition in today’s fourth at Bay Meadows. Roberto Gonzalez, who has ridden her successfully in the past, takes over for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

Exotically speaking: A pick three singling Validating in the fifth, using Ole Cheryl, Red Neck Lady and Ballistic Angel in the sixth and Wacky Patty, Hot Weekend and Smoke Break in the seventh.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 2/91. Money: Previous day/meet total: $11.20/$502.20. Total money bet: $586.
