* Trailing Capistrano Valley, 13-7, late in the third quarter, Murrieta Valley junior Kyle Nies kicked field goals of 22, 36 and 23 yards, the latter as time expired to give the Nighthawks a 16-13 victory.

* Matt Struiksma kicked a 29-yard field goal with six seconds left to give Cerritos Valley Christian a 9-7 victory over Whittier California.

* Covina’s Chris Morales blocked a field-goal attempt with 23 seconds left to preserve a 13-10 victory over Pomona Diamond Ranch.

COMEBACKS

* Ramon Cervantes turned a short pass into a 57-yard touchdown with 2:32 left to tie the score, and Steven Librenjak caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Amilcar Archila with nine seconds left to give El Monte a 24-18 victory over Glendale Hoover.

* Fontana went to a hurry-up offense in the fourth quarter and overcame a 19-point deficit, scoring on Joe Felix’s third touchdown pass of the quarter -- to Mike Ephraim -- with five seconds left for a 27-26 victory over Moreno Valley.
