From Staff and Wire Reports

At least 200 commuters were delayed for nearly two hours Thursday after a man apparently committed suicide by stepping in front of an Amtrak train.

The Pacific Surfliner was northbound from San Diego to San Luis Obispo when the incident occurred about 2 p.m., said Susan Swain, a spokeswoman for Amtrak. She said the train got underway again about 3:45 p.m.

Two other trains were delayed for about 45 minutes, Swain said.

In addition, traffic on Red Hill Avenue, near the site of the incident, was backed up for two hours while the street was closed.
