Ventura County Championships

When: Today, 1:30 p.m.

Where: Lake Casitas.

Fast facts: Simi Valley Royal will attempt to win its third consecutive boys’ and girls’ titles in the 27th edition of the meet, assuming it is not postponed or canceled because of poor air quality from the Simi Valley wildfire. Royal, second in The Times’ Southland rankings, is heavily favored to win the boys’ championship. But the Highlander girls’ team will be an underdog to No. 5 Ventura. Junior Dylan Jaedtke of Royal is an overwhelming favorite to win the boys’ individual title after winning the team sweepstakes race at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational on Saturday. Katie Gose of Thousand Oaks La Reina, Lisa Novik of Agoura and defending champion Lauren Morales of Oak Park are expected to battle for the girls’ individual championship.
