Austin Hansen, Brentwood: Swept at No. 1 singles in victory over defending Southern Section Division II champion Palm Desert. The Eagles, defending Division III champions, won on tiebreaker games, 4-2, after 9-9 finish.

Michelle Murphy, Santa Ana Mater Dei: Swept, 6-4, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 1 singles in a 10-8 upset of Corona del Mar, a Division I semifinalist last season.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Alyson Jennings, Newport Harbor: Had 15 kills, 23 assists and five aces to lead Sailors, No. 5 in The Times’ preseason rankings, to a 25-21, 24-26, 25-18, 28-26 victory over host Huntington Beach.

Stacy Dominguez, Anaheim Esperanza: Had 10 kills for No. 10 Aztecs in 25-15, 25-16, 19-25, 25-20 victory over host Lake Forest El Toro.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Mike Koplan, Agoura: Scored his fifth goal of the game with 1:12 left in the third overtime to help Chargers to an 11-10 victory over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in a Harvard-Westlake tournament quarterfinal.

David Nunez, Temple City: Scored eight goals and goalie Bryan Reyes recorded 11 saves in a 10-6 victory over Etiwanda in a Rancho Cucamonga tournament quarterfinal.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Mariko Makabe, Rolling Hills Estates Peninsula: Shot three-over par 75 to lead Panthers to victory in the Palm Desert Lady Invitational with a tournament-record team score of 384, shattering its record of 430 set last year. Jenn Birmingham of Long Beach Millikan also shot 75 but earned medal honors on a card-off.
