Motorcyclist Dies After Hitting Divider on 405

A motorcyclist was killed early Tuesday after he struck the center divider of the San Diego Freeway in Costa Mesa, the California Highway Patrol said.

The driver, an unidentified 40-year-old man from Westminster, was traveling south at 70 to 75 mph about 2:50 a.m. when he hit the divider, CHP Officer C.H. Richardson said.

He was thrown into the carpool lane on the opposite side of the freeway, Richardson said. The motorcyclist was not hit by any vehicles, Richardson said.
