Lucky Says He’ll Play at Nebraska

Marlon Lucky of North Hollywood, considered among the top running backs in Southern California, committed to Nebraska after taking an official recruiting trip last weekend.

Lucky, who also gave serious consideration to USC, still must attain a qualifying score on the SAT to gain college eligibility.

Lucky, 6 feet and 205 pounds, has rushed for 1,365 yards, has 289 yards receiving and has scored 30 touchdowns in nine games this season.

In nine games last season, he scored a City Section-best 30 touchdowns and rushed for 1,772 yards.

Playoffs

A look at the top performances from Tuesday’s games:

* Ryan Aquila, Covina Charter Oak: Had nine goals, nine steals and seven assists in 24-12 win over Anaheim Magnolia in a Southern Section Division VI boys’ water polo playoff game.

* Ashton Basch, Lake Forest El Toro: Had 19 kills of a first-round Division I-A volleyball victory over Whittier California, 25-16, 17-25, 25-16, 20-25, 15-6.

* Matthew Birkenbach, Pico Rivera El Rancho: Goalkeeper had a season-high 14 saves in an 8-5 Division III water polo victory over South Pasadena.
