Crenshaw Shows It’s the Real Deal

Share

From the opening kickoff, returned 97 yards for a touchdown by Gardner McKay, Crenshaw displayed the kind of breakaway speed Friday night that distinguishes City Section football. The Cougars never let up in a 37-7 Coliseum League victory over previously unbeaten Fremont.

Crenshaw (5-1, 1-0) had faced a much tougher nonleague schedule than the Pathfinders (5-1, 0-1), and it showed. Linebacker Reggie Carter had three sacks to lead a Crenshaw defense that applied constant pressure to quarterback Carlos Lopez and limited Andre Bouvay, averaging 9.3 yards a carry, to 57 yards in 14 carries.

Solomon Elimimian tackled Bouvay in the end zone for a safety and Tyquan Knox returned a kickoff 61 yards for a touchdown to give the Cougars a 15-0 lead in the first five minutes .

The one Fremont player who matched the Cougars in speed and skills was three-sport standout Danny Williams, who caught a 47-yard touchdown pass. He finished with four receptions for 100 yards and recovered a fumble.

Carter, who has nine sacks, is one of five Crenshaw defensive players who could be headed to NCAA Division I-A schools.
