From Times Staff Reports

The Woodland Hills El Camino Real baseball team was desperate for a clutch hit Wednesday against visiting Chatsworth. Ryan Lavarnway came through and then some.

Lavarnway hit a three-run home run in the third inning to tie the score and his two-run single in the sixth provided insurance as El Camino Real, ranked No. 3 in the Southland by The Times, defeated the top-ranked Chancellors, 8-3, in a West Valley League game.

The victory was El Camino Real’s first over Chatsworth since 2002 and ended Chatsworth’s 39-game league winning streak.

El Camino Real (20-5, 8-2) lost to Chatsworth, 1-0, Monday and began Wednesday’s game by leaving the bases loaded in the first inning. Chatsworth (22-2, 9-1) scored three runs in the second on a run-scoring double by Mike Moustakas and a two-run double by J.C. Barker, but Lavarnway’s home run, his sixth of the season, turned the momentum.

“Our guys really rallied around that hit,” Lavarnway said.

Chatsworth, held to two hits on Monday, stranded 10 runners and was two for 11 with runners in scoring position.
