Water Rate Increase Lower Than Proposed
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
City residents will see their water rates go up, but not as much as first proposed, under a $3.1-billion budget approved Tuesday by the Board of Water and Power Commissioners.
Rates will increase 3.8% on Jan. 1, lower than the proposed 4.2%. The change was attributed to new projections for revenue needed to pay for water quality and security needs, said department spokeswoman Carol Tucker.
The proposed rate increase is the beginning of a plan to raise rates up to 14% over four years.
