The Simi Valley Royal tournament, previously scheduled to take place today at three sites in Simi Valley, has been moved more than 30 miles west to Oxnard and Oxnard Pacifica highs.

The move was prompted by concern over poor air quality caused by wildfires.

“Everyone was very nice and completely understanding. Oxnard was excited, and San Luis [Obispo] was almost ready to throw a party,” Royal Coach Heidi Buonauro said.

Ventura Buena, the 2004 champion, is not competing in the event, but the 28-team tournament features several strong teams from around Ventura County and the San Fernando Valley.

Unranked Oak Park (12-0) puts its unbeaten season on the line. Led by senior outside hitter Jesse Yeager, who has committed to Penn, the Eagles are in a pool that includes Calabasas, Downey and La Canada, the fifth-ranked team in the Southern Section Division III-AA coaches’ poll. Others in the tournament include Flintridge Sacred Heart and Thousand Oaks La Reina, the second- and eighth-ranked teams in Division IV-AA.
