CALIFORNIA BRIEFING

Firefighters in San Bernardino County contained the Crafton fire Saturday and were mopping up remaining hot spots.

Firefighters established a perimeter around the 347-acre fire in the morning, said Bill Peters, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry. At least two firefighters received minor injuries. One sprained an ankle and the other had heat exhaustion. No homes were damaged.

The fire was reported at 4:39 p.m. Wednesday on Chapman Heights Road near Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa.

The fire was declared arson after San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 16-year-old boy. Authorities said witnesses reported seeing him leaving the area on a bicycle around the time the fire broke out. Investigators have said they suspect the teenager of setting dozens of fires in the area, including the 860-acre Pendleton fire that destroyed two structures and the Oak Glen fire that charred more than 1,100 acres.
