BOYS

Division I

Woodland Hills Taft (26-5) at Santa Ana Mater Dei (31-1), 8 p.m. — This game figures to come down to whether Taft’s guards can stay competitive with Mater Dei’s trio of Tyler Lamb, Keala King and Gary Franklin Jr. Mater Dei likes to play an up-tempo game, but that’s also what the Toreadors enjoy. Mater Dei must deal with Taft’s Bryce Jones and De’Andre Daniels. A year ago, Fairfax came to Mater Dei and pulled off an upset with some hot outside shooting. Taft has the talent to do it again.

Long Beach Poly (28-4) vs. Westchester (29-3) at L.A. Roybal High, 7 p.m. — Poly’s athleticism and size will certainly present a test for the Comets, but Westchester’s experience has been difficult to overcome. The defending state champions have been consistent throughout the playoffs, rising up when needed. And their balance and ability to get contributions from more than just one player presents a challenge. But Poly got past a tough Etiwanda team on Thursday, and this is the Jackrabbits’ chance for a breakthrough.
