BASELINE LEAGUE
At Mt. San Antonio College

Boys

Rancho Cucamonga had three of the top four finishers, but Upland was declared the victor on the tiebreaker after both teams totaled 31 points. Senior Andrew Trinidad led Rancho Cucamonga, the No. 5-ranked team in the Southland by The Times, to a 1-2-4 finish with a 15:18 clocking over the 2.91-mile course. But No. 4 Upland had five of the top nine finishers, paced by senior Aaron Borja’s third-place time of 15:42. Upland was declared the winner because its’ No. 6 runner finished 12th and Rancho Cucamonga’s No. 6 runner was 22nd. Although Rancho Cucamonga finished second in the league final, which is based on an invitational scoring system, the Cougars defeated Upland, 27-29, in dual-meet scoring. Those two teams were scheduled to race each other in a dual meet last week, but the meet was postponed because of the poor air quality due to the wildfires in San Bernardino County. Rancho Cucamonga’s victory in the dual-meet portion of the meet gives it a dual-meet record of 80-0 in the last seven years. And with dual meets counting toward half of the league title, the Cougars share the league title with Upland.

Picchetti, a senior ran 18:22 over the 2.91-mile course and junior teammate Martinez timed 19:01. Picchetti had transferred to Rancho Cucamonga over the summer after finishing 24th in the national championships for San Antonio Reagan last year. But a stress fracture above her left ankle had prevented her from racing until until last month. The league final was just her third race of the season. Upland was paced by senior Erynne Jones, who finished third in 19:21, and freshman Chrysanthia Cheung-Lau, fourth in 19:23.
