One shot and gravely wounded in Echo Park dispute

Share

A dispute that might have been between neighbors led to a shooting Wednesday night in Echo Park that left one person gravely injured, police said.

The person was shot about 8:30 p.m. in the 500 block of North Benton Way, near the 101 Freeway, said Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The gunman walked up to the victim and the two became involved in an argument. At some point, the gunman fired several times, Im said.

The victim, whose identity was not released, was taken to the hospital.

The shooting, which occurred near Echo Park’s boundary with Westlake and Silver Lake, was not believed to be related to gang activity. A preliminary investigation indicated the incident was “possibly a neighbor dispute,” Im said.
