Small plane makes emergency landing on San Jose city street

No injuries were reported after a small plane made an emergency landing Thursday on a city street near a San Jose airport.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the pilot to land the single-prop plane about two blocks before the runway at Reid-Hillview airport near Capitol Expressway and Quimby Road, east of U.S. 101, according to local media reports.

There did not appear to be any physical damage to the aircraft, which ended up in the right-turn lane of the intersection. Footage from television news helicopters showed traffic driving around the aircraft as onlookers snapped photographs.

Firefighters sent to the site were later cleared to leave the scene, according to KGO-TV. San Jose police and airport officials, however, continued to investigate the incident, a dispatcher told the ABC affiliate.

The airport is a small, county airfield near Cunningham Lake.
