Boys’ basketball: Pasadena gives first-year coach Tony Brooks share of league title

Tony Brooks wasn’t given an easy task, taking over as head coach at Pasadena for Tim Tucker. He spent 17 years as an assistant to Tucker. But Brooks ended the regular season on Thursday night guiding the Bulldogs to a share of the Pacific League title with a 66-53 victory over rival Muir.

Rajon Moore scored 30 points and Ajon Efferson had 17 points and eight assists for Pasadena (17-9, 12-2). Joining Pasadena as co-league champion was Crescenta Valley (20-8, 12-2), which defeated Arcadia, 54-47 to earn its first league title since 2004. Eric Patten scored 19 points and had 16 rebounds.

Sherman Oaks Buckley finished 27-0 after winning the Liberty League title with a 55-46 victory over YULA. Austin Butler scored 20 points.

One of the hottest teams is Chino Hills, which defeated Damien, 82-64, to end the regular season with a 13-game win streak. Mark Williams scored 20 poins. The Huskies finish the regular season at 23-4 and 10-0 in the Sierra League. Jeremy Hemsley scored 33 points for Damien.

In the Trinity League, St. John Bosco received 23 points apiece from Daniel Hamilton and Tyler Dorsey in a 74-52 win over Santa Margarita. Servite defeated Orange Lutheran, 50-44. Mater Dei finished the regular season at 27-0 after an 82-61 win over JSerra. Stanley Johnson scored 25 points, Rex Pflueger had 15 points and M.J. Cage added 13 points and 13 rebounds.

In the Baseline League, Etiwanda (25-3) won its 11th consecutive league title for Coach Dave Kleckner with a 70-32 win over Upland. Dominick Alexander had 11 points and Jordan McLaughlin and Kenny Barnes added 10 apiece. Rancho Cucamonga defeated Glendora, 80-62. Daylan Lawrence scored 23 points and Brian Beard had 13 points and eight assists.

Trabuco Hills won a share of the Seaview League championship with Dana Hills after a 60-53 win over San Clemente. It was Trabuco Hills’ first league title since 1994.

In the Bay League, Redondo (22-4) finished 10-0 after a 49-37 win over Leuzinger. Terrell Carter had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Cameron had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

In the Moore League, Long Beach Poly won the championship and Compton finished second. Compton defeated Long Beach Jordan, 83-70.

In the Alpha League, Sierra Canyon held off Windward, 52-51, to improve to 25-2 and 10-0. Deveral Ramsey scored 15 points. Tra Holder scored 30 points in Brentwood’s 79-64 win over Viewpoint. Tim Howell had 26 points for Viewpoint. Campbell Hall defeated Paraclete, 75-46. Aaron Holiday scored 28 points and Jordan Cohen 14. Colin Bell had 18 rebounds.

In the Foothill League, Hart (24-2, 10-0) defeated Canyon, 53-52. Myles Franklin scored 17 points and Lewis Stallworth 11. West Ranch defeated Valencia, 64-59, to finish in second place. Izayah Doyle and Alec Rodriguez each scored 18 points.

In the Marmonte League, Calabasas (22-5, 13-1) picked up a share of the league title with a 73-52 win over Agoura. Jeremy Lieberman scored 23 points, Larry Bush had 16 and Austin Smith added 11 points and 11 rebounds. Westlake (21-7, 13-1) also earned a share of the title with a 51-38 win over Moorpark. Marcos Soto made five three-pointers and finished with 20 points.

Thousand Oaks defeated Newbury Park, 58-43. Matt Hauser scored 23 points.

In the Ocean League, Beverly Hills defeated Culver City, 63-42, to finish tied for first place with Santa Monica. Beverly Hills gets the league title because of its two wins over Santa Monica, Coach Jarvis Turner said. Siavash Yektafar had 28 points for the Normans. Santa Monica defeated Hawthorne, 55-49. Mikhail Brown had 16 points and 14 rebounds. Morningside upset Inglewood, 51-44.

In the Channel League, Santa Barbara defeated San Marcos, 65-44, to finish 22-2 and 12-0.
