Baseball: 2015 is going to feature an elite West Valley League

Share

Good luck to the teams in West Valley League baseball next season. It’s going to be the toughest league by far in the City Section.

Just look who’s returning.

City champion Birmingham has both of its starting pitchers back in Adrian Rodriguez and Jonathan Russomano, plus shortstop Ivan Lomeli, catcher Ryan Mendoza and freshman standout Justin Rorick.

Chatsworth will have three top pitchers back in Josh Garcia, Tommy Palomera and John Cashman, plus talented shortstop Sam Shaikin. The Chancellors do have to hire a new coach.

El Camino Real returns its ace, Jeremy Polon, plus standout catcher Eric Yang.

Cleveland returns its ace, Ben Kaser, plus talented freshman Sam Villa.

Granada Hills returns pitcher Chris Murphy.

Taft returns pitcher Max Mehlbaum.

This season was a golden opportunity for a non-San Fernando Valley team to win it all. It didn’t happen.

Narbonne returns All-City pitcher Daniel Rocha and improving first baseman Isaiah Flowers. Kennedy has its two top pitchers back in Gilbert Hernandez and Felix Rubi, plus catcher Chris Sandberg.

But in 2015, the City champion will definitely come from the West Valley League after what should be a more than intriguing regular season.
