The only uncertainty about Tuesday’s City Section Division I baseball playoff opener between Granada Hills and host Banning was how many innings it would take for a team to score. Granada Hills pitcher Chris Murphy and Banning pitcher Ivan Martinez were expected to duel and each lived up to expectations.

Martinez allowed three hits and no runs in eight innings. Murphy struck out 17 and didn’t give up a hit until two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, when freshman Andres Vega got an infield single to score Javier Perez and give Banning a 1-0 victory.

El Camino Real 5, San Pedro 0: Jeremy Polon struck out 13, Jake Baer hit a home run and Jose Campos had a two-run double to help the No. 2 Conquistadores advance.
