Baseball: Concrete being poured as new Notre Dame field takes shape

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame’s new $3 million baseball stadium has begun to take shape, with concrete being poured on Monday.

The new structure will be done by the end of December and artificial turf is scheduled to be put in by the middle of January.

For the first time, Notre Dame will have lights, and the first night game is scheduled for March 14 against Chatsworth in a doubleheader set for 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The first Mission League night game will be against neighorhood rival Crespi on March 28.

Notre Dame has moved with great speed to build the stadium. It was only last year that Notre Dame baseball boosters went to school President Brett Lowart with a proposal. Baseball bosters have raised $1.3 million and continue to raise funds.

Notre Dame has produced such major leaguers as Cy Young Award winner Jack McDowell and Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton.
