Baseball: Former Montclair Prep coaches have their teams in championship games
- Share via
Montclair Prep, one of the San Fernando Valley’s top small school athletic programs during its glory days until dropping its sports program in 2011 and closing in 2012, is well represented in the Southern Section baseball playoffs.
The last two Montclair Prep baseball coaches, Rick Weber and Matt Whisenant, are coaching in championship games. Weber’s Sierra Canyon team plays Capistrano Valley Christian on Saturday at UC Riverside in the Division 6 final, expected to be at 7:30 p.m.
Whisenant’s Village Christian team plays Santa Ynez in the Division 5 final at 1 p.m.
Also on Sierra Canyon’s team is junior Jake Fried, who’s the younger brother of Max Fried, a standout pitcher on the final Montclair Prep baseball team in 2011.
