Baseball: Long Beach Wilson catcher Chris Betts leads team to fifth consecutive win

With junior catcher Chris Betts hitting his third home run of the season, Long Beach Wilson rolled to a 6-1 victory ove San Clemente on Thursday, the fifth consecutive victory for the Bruins (5-1). Betts, a Tennessee commit, is seven for 15 on the season.

Josh Goldberg allowed three hits in six innings and struck out five. Steve Castro and Max Cauble also hit home runs for Wilson, which inflicted a rare defeat on San Clemente ace Kolby Allard.

Vista Murrieta (6-0) won a semifinal game of the Loara tournament with an 8-2 win over Lakewood. Hunter Tidwell had three hits and J.T. McLellen had two hits and two RBIs.

Alemany and Chatsworth finished tied, 3-3, in 10 innings after the game was called because of darkness.

St. Francis defeated Temple City, 3-2. Andres Kim had a single and triple. Kevin Baker got the victory. Daniel Alvarez extended his scoreless innings streak to 13 in California’s 10-0 win over Mira Costa. He allowed one hit in six innings. Jesse Perdomo had two doubles and two RBIs.

Brad Wegman allowed two hits in 6 2/3 innings and Logan Morrison had an RBI double to help Great Oak defeated San Diego Ramona, 5-2.

Chaminade defeated Moorpark, 2-0. Dylan Suppan threw four shutout innings and Nick Ortega finished with three shutout innings. Nick Kahle had two hits. Crespi swept a doubleheader from Cleveland, 21-2 and 8-2.

Peninsula improved to 4-0 with a 6-1 victory over St. John Bosco. Narbonne defeated West Torrance, 4-2. Dalton Rocha struck out seven and Scott Savage got the save. Javier Garcia had two hits.

Three pitchers combined on a two-hitter to lift Cypress past Long Beach Millikan, 3-0. Los Alamitos defeated El Dorado, 3-2, in eight innings. Dana Hills defeated Santa Margarita, 2-1.

Josh Himmelstern had a home run and three RBIs and Colin MacDonald threw five shutout innings in Calabasas’ 5-0 win over Oaks Christian.

Andy Morales had a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to give Camarillo a 7-6 win over Dos Pueblos.

Hart (4-0-1) defeated Westlake, 4-1. Jack Ralston threw six innings and Wes Fitzpatrick had two hits. Luke Dykstra had two hits for Westlake.

Saugus defeated Newbury Park, 7-1. Troy Williams had three hits and Eric Little allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings. Simi Valley defeated Burroughs, 4-2. Robert Stephan and Cal Hodgins each had two hits.

El Camino Real defeated Sun Valley Poly, 6-0. Brian Gallagher allowed two hits. Trevor Dergazarian had three hits.

Dustin Shirley had four hits and four RBIs and Angelo Armenta had two doubles in Loyola’s 11-2 win over Agoura.

Sylmar defeated Arleta, 4-3. Moises Gutierrerz and David Fuentes each had two hits. Santa Barbara (4-0) defeated San Luis Obispo, 3-1. Sophomore Kevin Gowdy struck out 11 and allowed two hits.
