Boys’ basketball: Mark Boland continues his exceptional shooting for Birmingham

Everyone knew about the big three at Birmingham before the season _ Devante Doutrive, Devonaire Doutrive and Deschon Winston. But it has been the play of senior Mark Boland and his shooting that has enabled Birmingham to go 18-3.

The Patriots’ latest victory came over Saugus, 97-78, on Saturday. Boland scored 29 points. His development has made the Patriots even tougher to defeat. Devante scored 28 points and Devonaire 15. Winston took the night off.

La Canada defeated Los Osos, 74-69. Sean Estes scored 30 points.

St. John Bosco defeated Diamond Bar, 68-53. Alpha Okoli and Makani Whiteside each scored 16 points. The Braves get Mater Dei next week.

Freshman Clark Slajchert scored 23 points in Oak Park’s 57-48 win over Hesperia.

Rolling Hills Prep defeated Army-Navy, 58-28. Chris Koon led four players in double figures with 14.

Camarillo defeated San Gabriel Academy, 70-60. Justin Nguyen had 13 points.

Damien defeated Claremont, 92-65. Cameron Shelton had 21 points. Price defeated Buckley, 55-39.

Heritage Christian defeated Windward, 75-70, with Jonathan Daniels scoring 19 points.

Malakhi Jensen and Joey Walsh each scored 17 points in St. Francis’ 85-56 win over King-Drew.

Etiwanda defeated Gahr, 55-37.
