Boys’ basketball: Birmingham, Westchester reach championship game of Redondo tournament

It will be an all-City Section final at the Redondo tournament on Saturday night.

Birmingham and Westchester came away with semifinal victories. Birmingham needed Devante Doutrive to drive the length of the floor after getting the ball with 10 seconds left to score the winning basket in a 69-67 victory over Narbonne. He finished with 21 points. Brother Devonaire had 20 points.

Westchester defeated Eastvale Roosevelt, 81-75. Chris Simmons scored 20 points and Luis Rodriguez 17. Matt Mitchell had 34 points for Roosevelt.

Oak Park defeated Long Beach Poly, 52-43, stamping itself as an Open Division playoff contender. Wes Slajchert had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Riley Battin added 15 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Clark Slajchert finished with 12 points.

Santa Margarita defeated Redondo, 83-59. Adrease Jackson had 20 points, Kaden Rasheed 19 and Jake Kyman added 12 points and eight assists.

Cassius Stanley made his season debut in Harvard-Westlake’s 70-69 win over Peninsula. He scored 18 points. Ali Iken finished with 22 points. Sophomore Wony’a Singleton had 22 points for Peninsula.

Lynwood defeated Inglewood, 68-63. Marvin Bragg scored 29 points in Gahr’s 65-52 win over Rancho Christian. Campbell Hall defeated Kalaheo, 69-61. Mike Meadows had 24 points.

Saturday’s Redondo schedule: Harvard-Westlake vs. Dominguez, 10 a.m.; Gahr vs. Inglewood, 11:30 a.m.; Peninsula vs. Mayfair, noon; LB Poly vs. Redondo, 1 p.m.; Rancho Christian vs Lynwood, 2:30 p.m.; Santa Margarita vs. Oak Park, 4 p.m.; St. Anthony vs. Morningside, 5:30 p.m.; Roosevelt vs. Narbonne, 7 p.m.; Birmingham vs. Westchester, 8:30 p.m.

In the Harbor Teacher Prep tournament, Central City won the championship with a 70-50 win over Animo Venice. Boe Nguidol had 23 points and 16 rebounds. Christian Finney added 21 points and eight assists.

Simi Valley defeated Agoura, 59-50. Jacob Grebeta scored 20 points and Max Edwards added 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Calabasas defeated Dorsey, 69-58. Zach Favaedi had 21 points.

Heritage Christian advanced to championship game of the Chaminade tournament with 72-67 win over Beverly Hills. Juhwan Harris-Dyson scored 31 points.

Windward will play Heritage Christian in the final after upsetting Wasatch Academy, 75-64. Jules Bernard had 23 points and 17 rebounds. Jalen Harris had 20 points.

University advanced to the final of the El Monte tournament with a 75-49 win over Oakwood. Jude Agbasi had 19 points. St. Paul defeated West Covina, 75-53, in the other semifinal.
