Boys’ basketball: Crespi upsets Chaminade in overtime

In the latest Mission League madness, Encino Crespi, coming off a loss to St. Francis, defeated Chaminade, 65-61, in overtime on Friday night.

Medi Baghchehsarai made a basketball off an assist from DJ Ursery to tie the game for Crespi with 5.6 seconds left in regulation. Then the Celts (14-5, 2-2) won it in overtime. Mike Krkeyan had 20 points and Max Heidegger 17. Jack Williams and Michael Oguine each had 13 points for Chaminade (14-2).

“Just another day in the Mission League,” Crespi Coach Russell White.

Loyola defeated St. Francis, 65-47. Alemany defeated Harvard-Westlake, 75-67. Brandon Boyd had 20 points. Alex Copeland led Harvard-Westlake with 20 points.

In the Baseline League, Etiwanda defeated Rancho Cucamonga, 61-56. Jordan McLaughlin had 21 points and Kameron Edwards 14. Nick Culver and Daylan Lawarence had 12 apiece for Rancho Cucamonga.

In the Trinity League, No. 1 Mater Dei defeated Servite, 62-47. Stanley Johnson finishd with 26 points. MJ Cage had 17 points and 16 rebounds. JSerra defeated Santa Margarita, 57-52. Johnnie Vassar scored 26 points.

In the Alpha League, Brentwood defeated Paraclete, 63-38. Tra Holder scored 17 points. Sierra Canyon held off Campbell Hall, 74-68. Deveral Ramsey had 21 points. Aaron Holiday led Campbell Hall with 31 points.

In the Marmonte League, Calabasas defeated Newbury Park, 72-62. Jeremy Lieberman scored 20 points and Austin Smith 17. Tyler Cartaino had 32 points for Newbury Park. Westlake defeated Royal, 67-52. Marcos Soto made five three-pointers and had 17 points.

In the Moore League, Long Beach Millikan won in two overtimes over Long Beach Jordan, 83-82.

Redondo defeated Mira Costa, 64-44. Cameron High had 15 points and five assists. Leland Green and Terrell Carter added 14 apiece. Damien (15-2) defeated Ayala, 66-50. Jeremy Hemsley scored 25 points and Malik Fitts had 15. Chino Hills received 20 points from LiAngelo Ball and 18 from Mark Williams in an 84-59 win over Charter Oak.

Santa Monica defeated Culver City, 62-53. Sophomore Jonah Mathews contributed 20 points.

In the Foothill League, Valencia defeated Golden Valley, 67-57. Dakota Abbott had 19 points. Hart defeated Saugus, 79-56. Myles Franklin scored 22 points. Canyon defeated West Ranch, 53-50. Steven Brotz had 15 points.

In the Golden League, Highland defeated Eastside, 57-43. Devin Burleson scored 17 points and had 17 rebounds. Highland is 11-3 and 6-0 in league. In the Olympic League, Maranatha defeated Valley Christian, 58-42.

St. Monica defeated St. Paul, 67-30, in the Camino Real League. Kevin Dotson scored 21 points. In the Tri-Valley, Oaks Christian defeated St. Bonaventure, 69-59, in overtime. Football standout Bryce Dixon scored 28 points for St. Bonaventure. Austen Moye led Oaks Christian with 27 points.

In the City Section, the El Camino Real-Birmingham game was postponed because of air-quality concerns over the fire in Glendora. Granada Hills defeated Chatsworth, 62-47. Brandon Dozier had 23 points. Taft defeated Cleveland, 80-74. Chris Sandifer scored 35 points.

University defeated Venice, 87-78. CJ Sinada made eight three-pointers and scored 35 points. Fairfax defeated Hamilton, 70-38. Lindsey Drew had 15 points and eight assists. Sage Woodruff added 15. Westchester (15-4, 2-0) routed Palisades, 87-50, scoring the first 20 points of the game. Elijah Stewart finished with 18 points.

Sun Valley Poly defeated North Hollywood, 75-52. Sal Gonzalez scored 20 points and Cesar Reyes 17. Verdugo Hills defeated Grant, 56-54. Erik Esparza made a three-pointer with 18 seconds left for the East Valley League victory. Daleshaun Jackson had 22 points for Grant. Esparza finished with 14 points for Verdugo Hills.
