Boys’ basketball: Derrick Taylor wins No. 300 with a buzzer beater [Video]
Daniel Hamilton’s three-pointer at the buzzer gave St. John Bosco a 78-75 victory over JSerra on Wednesday night, enabling Coach Derrick Taylor to pick up his 300th career victory. The Braves rallied from a six-point deficit in the final 30 seconds.
Tyler Dorsey had 31 points, Vance Jackson 20 and Daniel Hamilton 19 in the Trinity League win. Mater Dei improved to 24-0 with an 86-56 win over Orange Lutheran. MJ Cage had 19 points and Stanley Johnson 18. Santa Margarita defeated Servite, 60-49.
In the South Coast League, El Toro stayed in first place with a 68-63 win over Mission Viejo. Sean Harman scored 26 points. Chad Hutchison led Mission Viejo with 24 points.
In the Big 8 League, Sedrick Barefield scored 29 points in Corona Centennial’s 82-67 win over King.
In the Mission League, Chaminade pulled out a 52-44 overtime win over Crespi. De’Anthony Melton led Crespi with 18 points. Jason Eisen had 12 points for Chaminade. Alemany defeated Harvard-Westlake, 76-73, in overtime. Shacquille Dawkins made a three-point shot at the buzzer in regulation to send the game into overtime for Alemany. Brandon Boyd had 17 points. Loyola defeated St. Francis, 73-61. Max Hazzard had 24 points. Kyle Leufroy led St. Francis with 28 points.
In the Moore League, Compton handed Long Beach Poly its first league defeat with a 54-46 victory. Robert Lewis and Isaiah Bailey each had 14 points.
In the Pacifici League, Ajon Efferson scored 27 points in Pasadena’s 75-50 win over Burroughs.
In the Del Rey League, Gardena Serra defeated La Salle, 88-56. Tavrion Dawson had 25 points and 10 rebounds. Ron Freeman added 14 points and 11 rebounds.
In the Baseline League, Rancho Cucamonga defeated Los Osos, 62-57. Daylan Lawrence scored 22 points. Rancho Cucamonga plays Etiwanda on Friday for first place. Etiwanda defeated Alta Loma, 62-56.
In the Sierra League, Damien defeated Ayala, 66-63. Jeremy Hemsley scored 21 points and Malik Fitts 20.
In the Marmonte League, Larry Bush scored 22 points and Conner Longmire 14 to help Calabasas defeat Thousand Oaks, 69-46. Matt Hauser had 18 for the Lancers. Westlake defeated Agoura, 65-49. Marcos Soto had four three-pointers and finished with 18 points. Royal defeated Moorpark, 62-60. Aaron Haney had 22 points. Newbury Park defeated Simi Valley, 62-40. Shane White and Tyler Cartaino had 11 points each.
In the Ocean League, Jonah Mathews scored 23 points in Santa Monica’s 69-55 win over Culver City.
In the Tri-Valley League, Jordan Flannery scored 17 points in Oaks Christian’s 65-48 win over St. Bonaventure.
