Boys’ basketball: Jason Richardson, Ron Freeman lead Gardena Serra

First place in the Del Rey League was on the line on Wednesday, and the Gardena Serra duo of Jason Richardson and Ron Freeman came through in a 71-70 victory over Bishop Montgomery.

Richardson scored 23 points and Freeman had 21. Justin Bibbins tried to give Bishop Montgomery the victory, but his last-second shot failed to connect. Serra improved to 13-6 overall and 2-0 in league. Bishop Montgomery dropped to 17-3 and 2-1.

In the Trinity League, Orange Lutheran knocked off St. John Bosco, 62-55. Rogers Printup had 20 points and Zack Van Matre added 13 points, including three threes in the fourth quarter. Daniel Hamilton led the Braves with 27 points.

In the Mission League, Chaminade wiped out a three-point deficit after three quarters to defeat Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 51-41. Jack Williams and Michael Oguine had 15 points apiece.

L.A. Cathedral is 13-1 after a 60-48 win over St. Monica.

In the Moore League, Compton defeated Long Beach Cabrillo, 99-65. Isaiah Bailey scored 27 points. Long Beach Poly defeated Lakewood, 76-48. K.J. Feagin had 21 points.

In the Tri-Valley League, Oaks Christian defeated Santa Clara, 52-51.

Jeremy Hemsley scored 31 points in Damien’s 59-54 win over Claremont. Chino Hills defeated Ayala, 79-49.

Buckley improved to 24-0 with a 72-30 win over Lancaster Baptist. Astin Beal had 14 points.

Santa Barbara is 16-2 and 6-0 in the Channel League after a 66-63 win over Ventura.
