Boys’ basketball: Verdugo Hills wins East Valley League title

Adrian Gutierrez contributed 19 points and 26 rebounds and Albert Marmol made six consecutive free throws in the fourth quarter and finished with 18 points to help Verdugo Hills (24-4, 11-0) win the East Valley League championship with a 58-55 victory over Grant on Wednesday.

Daleshaun Jackson scored 24 points for Grant. North Hollywood defeated Monroe, 54-34.

In the West Valley League, El Camino Real (21-6, 9-0) wrapped up another league title with a 67-47 win over Granada Hills (16-10, 6-3). Julian Richardson, getting his shooting touch back, had 22 points and Evan Wardlow added 12.

Junior guard Serigne Athj scored 36 points and had 17 rebounds in Birmingham’s 75-58 win over Cleveland.

South Gate clinched its first Eastern League title since 2004 with a 77-60 win over Jordan. Gerardo Zavala scored 23 points and Joshua Conde had 21 points.

In the Coliseum League, View Park improved to 11-0 with an 86-78 win over Dorsey. Darius Henderson scored 20 points and Chance Comanche had 18 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocks. Luis Medearis added 17 points.

In the Western League, Elijah Stewart scored 26 points in Westchester’s 63-51 win over University. University was within six points in the fourth quarter. Tre Weston had 13 points and Darnell Bettis and C.J. Sinada added 12 points for Uni.

Fairfax defeated Venice, 91-85. Donald Gipson scored 35 points and Olisaemeka Nwachie and Sage Woodruff added 16 piece. Venice’s Dewan Thompson had 30 points.

In the Marine League, Quincy Thomas scored 21 points in San Pedro’s 67-55 win over Gardena.

In the Valley League, Kyle Lord scored 28 points as VAAS defeated Vaughn, 72-52.
