Games don’t get much bigger in the Marine League, or the City Section race for that matter, than tonight’s showdown between Carson and host San Pedro at 7 p.m. It’s safe to say plenty is at stake in the regular-season finale for both teams.

A favorable result for the visitors would secure sole possession of a league championship. Equally important for the Colts (7-2, 4-0) is that a win could potentially help to lock up the top overall seeding when the City’s Division I playoff pairings are released on Saturday.

San Pedro (8-1, 3-1), on the other hand, would like nothing more than to take care of business at home and force what could be a three-way tie for the title with Carson and Harbor City Narbonne (5-4, 3-1), which plays Wilmington Banning on Friday.

Traditional powerhouse Crenshaw (6-3 overall) remains in the mix for one of the top spots entering postseason play. Same thing might be said about surprising Garfield (7-2). Dorsey (4-5) always poses a threat.

Bottom line: Everything is on the line for Carson and San Pedro. Both programs, in fact, minutes ago, stepped out on the field to warm up. A league title awaits the winner as well as an easier road to the championship in the City Section.
