Mike Moschetti, the football coach at La Mirada, is the perfect person to help figure out who wins Friday’s showdown between No. 1 Mater Dei and No. 2 St. John Bosco at Cerritos College.

That’s because his 6-2 team lost to St. John Bosco, 34-0, and lost to Mater Dei, 48-0, in consecutive games.

“You have St. John Bosco with the best front seven around,” Moschetti said. “Mater Dei hasn’t played a team like St. John Bosco yet. Bosco is really balanced offensively. People don’t give Re-al Mitchell a lot of credit but he’s a great thrower and they’re real physical on the offensive line.

“Mater Dei has probably the best defense they’ve had in 10 years and their quarterback is the best high school quarterback I’ve ever seen. It should be a great game.

“I’m no guru. I can’t say who’s going to win. I think Bosco’s game plan is to try to keep Mater Dei off the field, but Bosco has athletes to run around in the secondary.”

The challenge for St. John Bosco is what to do with sophomore quarterback J.T. Daniels, who has completed 81% of his passes.

“We did everything,” he said. “We dropep nine guys at times and blitzed everybody, and he picked us apart. We looked like a Pop Warner team. We couldn’t get near him.”

Friday’s game will be televised by Fox Sports West.
