Football: Tre Watson sets school record with 466 yards rushing [Video]
It was a night to remember for Corona Centennial running back Tre Watson, who obliterated the school rushing record with a 466-yard performance in 37 carries and scored seven touchdowns on Saturday night in a 69-55 victory over Ventura St. Bonaventure in the Honor Bowl at Oceanside High.
Centennial (2-0) gained 886 yards in total offense and at one point scored on eight consecutive offensive possessions. The old rushing record was 415 yards.
“He was incredible,” Coach Matt Logan said.
In two games this season, Watson has rushed for 785 yards and scored 12 touchdowns.
St. Bonaventure gained 507 yards. The two teams’ combined offense of 1,390 yards would be a state record.
Centennial quarterback Robert Webber was 21 of 30 for 332 yards and three touchdowns.
St. Bonaventure quarterback Ricky Town was 24 of 34 for 259 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Marcus Chambers rushed for 227 yards and finished with four touchdowns. Lavan Alston had a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and caught a TD pass.
