Girls’ basketball: CIF refuses to allow Bishop O’Dowd into state playoffs

Share

The state CIF has rejected a bid by Oakland Bishop O’Dowd’s girls’ basketball team to be included in the state playoffs after the team was disqualified from the North Coast Section playoffs for violating a section rule in scheduling too many games.

In a statement released Wednesday, the CIF office said, “As the CIF has previously stated, teams can only qualify for and advance to the CIF state tournament through their respective section playofs. Given that Bishop O’Dowd was disqualified from the NCS playoffs, they are not eligible to qualify for the CIF Regional State Tournament, including the Open Division.”
