Saturday is championship day for cross country, girls’ volleyball, water polo

There’s going to be lots of trophies, plaques and medals awarded on Saturday, when high school championships will be held in the sports of cross country, girls’ volleyball and water polo.

The Southern Section cross country finals are set for Saturday morning at Mount San Antonio College. The City Section cross country finals are set for Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. at Pierce College.

In girls’ volleyball, the City Section finals are Saturday at Los Angeles Roybal. El Camino Real is set to play Carson in the Division I final at 7 p.m. It’s a rematch of an earlier match to open the season won by Carson.

The Southern Section girls’ volleyball finals are set for Friday and Saturday at Cerritos College, where Mate Dei will take on Redondo in the 1AA final on Saturday at 8 p.m. Here’s the link to the complete schedule.

In water polo, the Southern Section will hold its championships on Saturday at Heritage Park in Irvine. The featured match has Mater Dei playing Harvard-Westlake for the Division 1 championship at 5:30 p.m.
