Volleyball: L.A. Jordan shows it is one of the best in City Section

L.A. Jordan is the defending City Section champion in Division III volleyball, but the Bulldogs decided to test themselves against Division I power Taft on Thursday and came away with a three-set victory.
Sophomore Miguel Macias, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter who’s the younger brother of former City player of the year Cesar Medina, had a huge match for Jordan. So did middle blockers Eduardo Armenta and Trayvion Hamm.
“It’s super good,” second-year Coach Flavio Arellano said.
Said Taft Coach Armen Mercado: “They were fired up to play us.”
Taft played without last season’s Division II player of the year, Harry Wynn, who will be back on March 29 after recovering from an illness. Taft also unveiled basketball standout Travis Patrick, who was learning the system.
