Football: St. John Bosco up 17-7 at halftime

They’ve reached halftime in the CIF state Open Division bowl game and St. John Bosco holds a 17-7 lead over Northern California powerhouse De La Salle at StubHub Center in Carson.

Josh Rosen connected with Jaleel Wadood on a 60-yard pass play to extend the Braves’ lead to 10-0 three minutes into the second quarter.

De La Salle answered with a 12-play, 80-yard march capped by John Velasco’s 11-yard run, but the Braves answered with a 73-yard, 11-play drive capped by Rosen’s seven-yard pass to Wadood.

Sean McGrew has rushed for 92 yards in 12 carries, Wadood has four catches for 97 yards and Rosen is 7 of 9 for 119 yards for St. John Bosco. Velasco has 81 yards in 15 carries for De La Salle.

St. John Bosco is trying to deal the Spartans their first loss to a California team since Corona Centennial beat them 21-16 in the 2008 state Division I bowl game.

St. John Bosco has outgained De La Salle 219 yards to 140 yards and will get the ball first in the second half.
