Times’ back of the year: De’Jon Coleman, Arleta
BACK OF THE YEAR
De’Jon Coleman
Arleta
De’Jon Coleman of Arleta turned in the most productive season by a running back in City Section history, scoring a record 47 touchdowns. He has been selected The Times’ back of the year.
“When you think of how many have played in the Los Angeles district for 100 years, to break that record is unbelievable,” Coach Dan Kelley said. “He’s just a great football player.”
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Coleman used acceleration and elusiveness to score most of his touchdowns. He rushed for 2,029 yards in leading the Mustangs to the East Valley League championship.
“It shows my hard work,” Coleman said. “Every time I get the ball I do the best I can.”
